Cousins from Chicago, staying in Astoria, brought us to dinner at Trattoria L’incontro.

The restaurant is just off the corner of Ditmars Boulevard, a very busy location.  We happened to see a parking space (metered until 7:00 pm) as we turned the corner to the restaurant but know that valet parking is available.

A stone walkway led to the street-level, French-doors.  Once inside we were warmly greeted by the hostess, who led us to the table where our guests were already seated.  Floors are smooth and tables are well-spaced so that conversation was easy – until later, when the restaurant got really crowded and somewhat noisy.

As I looked around I saw a lovely, large dining room with high ceilings, hand-painted murals reflecting images of Chef Rocco Sacramone’s hometown of Abruzzo, Italy (website), and white table-cloths. An open brick-oven is a centerpiece at the back of the dining room.

We were presented with a menu with many choices, but were stunned by the number of specials that the waiter presented orally to us.  Pay careful attention to your server or you will wind up asking him to repeat anything that sounds interesting (as I had to). He was most gracious about it, describing what I had asked about in detail. They serve, “…traditional classics and state-of-the-art fare…with the freshest prime ingredients…” (website)  Six of us ordered six different entrees and each of them was delicious.  One of us said that the eggplant parmigiana he ordered was, “the best I have ever tasted.”  Another said that his pasta and pesto was “perfect.” The service was attentive and professional. It was clear that this restaurant wanted to please in every way.

There is a private dining room and a side room (one step down from the main dining area).

There are several single-occupancy restrooms in different locations. Two of the women’s restrooms are located to the back and left of the main dining room.  One of these is handicapped accessible (although a bit small).  Another has a baby-changing station but is not handicapped-accessible.  The other women’s room is to the right and behind the side room. This is neither handicapped-accessible, nor with a baby-changing station. One of the men’s rooms is handicapped-accessible. Neither of them have baby-changing stations.

We had a leisurely, delicious meal in an inviting venue.  It was nice to connect with relatives in a thoroughly enjoyable way.

As always, we at Destination:Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website, www.trattorialincontro.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
