As I was returning from a meeting at the Middle Country Library I passed the Bahama Breeze Island Grille. I had never heard of it, but the sun was shining, it's look was appealing and it had a large outdoor dining patio, so I decided to stop for a quick lunch.
Although it's address is the Smith Haven Mall ("located in the West parking lot adacent to Alexander Ave. and Middle Country Road - Route 25" website), I saw it from Middle Country Road and turned into the large, paved parking lot. There are five handicapped spaces (allvan accessible) close to the entrance.
The stone entryway has inviting, padded couches on either side. Street-level, double-doors lead to a foyer and another set of double-doors, which take you to the hostess area. If you have to wait there are benches in this area.
The interior dning area is spacious, with plenty of room to navigate. Tile and/or flat carpet cover the floors. The tropical decor is very relaxing. The website says, ""...a vibrant island atmosphere lets you feel a million miles from home, any day o the week."" It is "...like sunshine on your face...warm and welcoming."
Inside was lovely, but the delightful weather outside beckoned me to a seat on the patio. Access ws easy. Although it faces the parking lot, it is large enough to be able to sit and almost forget where you are facing.
My server and very attentive and pleasant, checking with me several times to make sure evything was to my satisfaction. It was! Many diners were enjoying some of the tropical drinks listed on the extensive menu. The Caribbean inspired menu made me think I would be back for dinner. Discovering that they offer live music "...from Caribbean soul to contemporary tunes..." I know I will be back!
Multi-stall restrooms with a large, handicapped-accessible stall and baby-changing station are located in the rear of the dining room.
This location, the only one in New York, is part of a chain of 40, from Florida to New York. Based on the good food and service, and easy accessibility of ths one, I imagine that all of them must be at least as good.
As always, we at Destination:Accessible, advise you to check a venues website, www.bahamabreeze.com, when planning a visit, to "know before you go."
